The Big Ears Festival has announced the line-up for its 10th anniversary running to take place in venues throughout downtown Knoxville, Tennessee, March 30–April 2, 2023, including Devendra Banhart, Sam Gendel, Mary Halvorson, Makaya McCraven, and Cécile McLorin Salvant.

Devendra Banhart was the special surprise guest on the Halloween Spooktacular episode of Office Hours Live with Tim Heidecker. Once the Halloween costume comes off, they discuss some recent and favorite concert-going experiences, and Banhart—whom Heidecker calls "a genuine legend of the new millennium"—closes out the hour with a performance of "Weatherman," a song by Heidecker's group Heidecker & Wood. Devendra Banhart's cover of The Grateful Dead’s “Franklin’s Tower,” first released as an Amazon Original in September in honor of the 45th anniversary of The Grateful Dead album Blues for Allah, is now available to stream and download everywhere. The song was produced and mixed by Noah Georgeson and recorded with his current touring band remotely in various studios and home studios.

Devendra Banhart will perform four ticketed, live-streaming concerts on Wednesdays this September, from four locations across Los Angeles, in a series titled OLA: Devendra Banhart plays songs in the order they were written. Banhart hand-picked the locations for their cultural, historical, and emotional significance: the Mountain, Bob Baker Marionette Theater, The Broad, and the Underground Museum. The concerts explore—in chronological order—songs from his catalog of ten albums. Moses Berkson directs the series; each show will feature one of Banhart’s frequent musical collaborators—including Noah Georgeson, Josiah Steinbrick, Gregory Rogove and Todd Dahlhoff—on a selection of songs.

Devendra Banhart's four-song EP Vast Ovoid is out now. It follows his 2019 studio album, Ma, about which Q says: "Banhart’s singular world remains as intoxicating as ever, as if all human life is here." The EP, available in a limited-edition 12" white vinyl 45 and digitally, includes the Helado Negro remix of the Ma song "Love Song" and three songs "that didn’t quite fit in with Ma's theme of maternity," Banhart says. "Ultimately all three songs are about the difference between disappointment and disillusion … Bigger difference than I realized ..."

Devendra Banhart has released "It's Not Always Funny," the third track from his upcoming four-song EP, Vast Ovoid, due as a limited-edition 12” colored vinyl 45 on July 24. Devendra Banhart curated a series of workshops for children titled Imaginary Universes, for Fondazione Prada's Accademia dei bambini in Milan in 2018. Now, the foundation has made the first workshop, "The Astonishing Adventures of a Celestial Archaeologist," available online as a resource for parents, teachers, and caregivers. It is part of the foundation's Accademia Aperta initiative to share materials during its temporary closure and the wider coronavirus quarantine.
